How far is Hisarönü from Dalaman Airport?

Hisarönü is about 62 km from Dalaman Airport, normally a 65 to 75 minute drive. Take the D400 east towards Fethiye, then follow the Ölüdeniz signs up the hill through Ovacık; Hisarönü is the next village, just before the road drops down to the beach.

The climb from Fethiye is wide and well surfaced, but busy with dolmuş minibuses that stop without warning, so keep your distance.

Why stay in Hisarönü with a rental car?

Hisarönü and Ovacık are cooler and quieter than the beach front, and accommodation usually includes parking, which is scarce down in Ölüdeniz. With a car you can be on the beach in about ten minutes, then return for dinner without hunting for a space.

The village is also the gateway to Kayaköy, a short drive west through pine forest, and to the coast road towards Faralya.

  • Ölüdeniz beach and Blue Lagoon: about 5 km downhill
  • Kayaköy ghost village: a few kilometres over the ridge
  • Fethiye town and harbour: about 10 km
  • Faralya viewpoint above Butterfly Valley: narrow mountain road, daylight driving advised

What is driving like in Hisarönü?

The main strip is lively at night with pedestrians crossing between bars and restaurants, so drive slowly after dark and never drink and drive. Side streets are narrow and some are one-way. Daytime driving is easy, and the roads to Fethiye and Ölüdeniz are well signposted.

Speed limit in the village is 50 km/h unless signs say lower; the descent to Ölüdeniz has tight hairpins where a low gear is essential.

Can I pick up the car in Hisarönü and drop it at Dalaman Airport?

Yes. Choose Hisarönü as the pickup place and Dalaman Airport as the drop-off and you have a one-way rental: drive yourself to your departure flight and hand the car back at the terminal. The reverse also works.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hisarönü the same as Ovacık?

They are neighbouring villages on the same road above Ölüdeniz; Ovacık comes first from Fethiye and Hisarönü follows. Delivery covers both.

How long is the drive from Hisarönü to Ölüdeniz?

About 10 minutes for roughly 5 km, but it is a steep, winding road, so allow extra time in summer traffic.

Is a car necessary in Hisarönü?

Dolmuş minibuses run often to Ölüdeniz and Fethiye, but a car lets you reach Kayaköy, Saklıkent and quieter beaches on your own schedule.

Can I walk from Hisarönü to Kayaköy?

Yes, there is a walking route, but in summer heat most visitors drive the short road and park at the village.

What size car suits Hisarönü?

A compact car is easiest on the narrow side streets; choose an SUV or 7-seater only if you need the space.

Will the car be delivered to a villa outside Hisarönü?

Give the exact address when you book; the rental company arranges delivery to Hisarönü and the surrounding area.
